OK here's finally my BE interpretation of the PBA oil patterns.

I ran into some problems while doing them.
First the images at the PBA site only had 37 boards. ^^ I can't believe they dont have any more accurate/detailed images to put on their site.
Then I accidentally erased my Photoshop work file so I had to make some patterns with wrong size which made it harder.
Then when resizing the image to 100x600 like the default image it lost some details. No one will be able to notice the difference while playing but it still annoys me. :)

It would be better if the oil pattern image was 39x731 pixels (39 boards and 1:18,75 aspect ratio).

ive had these patterns made for awhile now and am finally sharing them
these are pretty tough especially the 53ft pattern i made
alot of accuracy and control i recommend.
notice:these arent real patterns that are used in real life and probably never will be but they are still tough though

Making/adding your own oil patterns is quite simple. Just make a new 100x600 pixels greyscale JPG image. White means lots of oil, black means no oil.

Then replace the oilpattern1.jpg found in the games oilpattern subfolder with it. Or rather rename the old one first since you may want it back later.

My attempt to make the BE oil patterns more sim like continues.

I took the USBC regulations on all five PBA patterns, and translated them into the 100x600 dimensions.

For the actual amount of oil, I went by the USBC regulations for Kegel machines, and translated it into a gray scale. 1500mils I considered to be White (Lum=100), and 0mils to be Black (Lum=0). The max amount of oil on a lane, in any given spot, is 900mils. So the lightest colour for a single direction is Gray (Lum=60). You'll see lighter spots due to overlap from dual directions.

You'll see much smoother reactions to your ball... And ball choice REALLY makes a difference if you use the MIN and MAX formulas kicking around...

EDIT: I found the layouts for the US Open and ToC!

Quake with fear... Use these if you want a serious challenge.

Because I'm somewhat masochistic... I regularly use the Shark pattern... What a challenge!

The longest sport shot (that is still moderately playable):
